Family Law and Divorce

The Military District of Washington, Fort Myer Legal Assistance Office, provides comprehensive legal support to our eligible clients in the National Capital Region in separation and divorce cases.  Our office assists with the preparation of separation agreements and court documents necessary to file for and obtain an uncontested divorce in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.  We also assist clients with step-parent adoptions and provide advice on matters adjudicated before the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts.

Military regulations prohibit our attorneys from providing representation in civilian courts; however, our office can provide referrals to no-cost or reduced-fee legal assistance programs, and has available an attorney referral list if such services are required.

For separations and divorces, potential eligible clients MUST watch the video linked below on general divorce and separation information before contacting our office.  If an appointment is still needed, or for questions regarding our other family law services, please call 703-696-0761 to schedule.  All services are done by appointment only.

To prepare for your appointment please view the video presentation about family law issues in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area that you should be able to access from a home computer or mobile device.  The first is a high-definition version, the second is the same information, at a lower definition that uses lower band-width:
