Defenders’ Day Schedule

Friday, Sept. 13

7 p.m.- Parade! The Fort McHenry Guard and other living historians along with a contingent of National Park Service Rangers in their distinctive “green & gray” will muster at the foot of Hull Street in Locust Point and parade a replica of the “Star-Spangled Banner” flag from Hull Street to Fort Avenue to Fort McHenry.

NOTE:  The park's main entrance gates close at 5 p.m.

 

Saturday, Sept. 14

9 a.m. - Park opens
10 a.m. – Living History Dress Parade and Morning Flag Change
11:15 a.m. – “Home of the Brave” Walking Tours with Park Rangers to experience the history of the U.S. Army at Fort McHenry.
12 p.m. – Park Ranger Flag Talk
2 p.m. – 1814 Historical Weapons Demonstration
3:15 p.m. – “Home of the Brave Walking Tour
4 p.m. – Evening Flag Change
5 p.m. - Special Performance by the U.S. Army Field Band’s “Six String Soldiers” guitar ensemble
5:30 p.m. -
Future Soldier Swearing-in Ceremony by Major General Omar Jones IV, Commander JFHQ-NCR/MDW
5:40 p.m. – Special performance by The U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and The U.S. Army Drill Team
6:30 p.m. - War of 1812, Civil War & WWI era Living History “Pass in Review”
7:15 p.m. -
Patriotic Concert by The U.S. Army Field Band’s Concert Band with the Presidential Salute Battery
8:15 p.m. -
Mock bombardment with The Old Guard Presidential Salute Battery
8:25 p.m. -
Flag raising with National Anthem followed by fireworks display with the underscore by The U.S. Army Field Band
9 p.m. - Park closes


 

Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather the U.S. Army Patriotic Performance and the U.S. Army Band Concert are subject to cancellation. All other events at Fort McHenry will continue rain or shine but may be modified for visitor’s safety.

Admission: The U.S. Army Military District of Washington performances, The Visitor Center film, exhibits and grounds are FREE and open to the public. Sign Language Interpreters will be provided. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for a memorable evening!

Please note: admission to enter the Star Fort is $15 per adult (age 16 and up). The Visitor Center film, exhibits and grounds are free. Children age 15 and under are free.  The Saturday evening program is free starting at 4 p.m.

Prohibited Items: alcoholic beverages, explosives, firearms and any weapons of any type, laser pointers, screwdrivers (or similar tools), air horns, personal protection sprays, knives, large bags or backpacks, large coolers, and glass containers.

Bicycles are allowed in the park, however they must remain on paved roads and are subject to search the same as any other vehicle.
